Santa Clarita, CA —–
When three-phase AC power is applied to the primary, a travelling electromagnetic flux wave is induced and moves relative to the primary. The wave induces an electric current in the conductive reaction plate. The induced electric current interacts with the magnetic flux to produce a linear force. The speed of the motor can be varied by changing the input frequency using an adjustable frequency drive.
Each coil pair operates as its own voice coil.
Redundancy is a requirement on many flight systems in a special case when one coil faults, the other can be used to make the motor “fault-resistant”.
Other systems require simplified circuitry which would not allow the change of current polarity in order to change the direction, in these cases each coil can be used to drive the coil in a single direction. The challenge in manufacturing a redundant coil is ensuring the same performance no matter the coil, which requires precise manipulation of the magnetic circuit design, and the precise coil layout to ensure the identical operation and constants for each coil. This will allow the controls to seamlessly switch between the two coils.
There are two ways of accomplishing this coil redundancy. The most common way would be to generate multiple coils operating on individual magnetic circuits. This requires a longer coil and multiple magnetic circuits; however this is the most robust design and the least vulnerable to damage or interference from the redundant coil. The NCC08-18-025-2R2C is an example of the multiple coil design. An alternate method, which allows for the most compact solution, would be a multi-filar wind. This method only requires one magnetic circuit, which is why the length is shorter. In this case multiple coils are wound in the same winding space.

Motion Control – Linear Servo Controller Amplifier to Control Voice Coil Motors
Sunnyvale, CA, — Motion Control – The SCA814 Linear Servo Controller was specifically designed to control single phase, non-commutated devices like voice coil motors. like it’s field proven predecessor the SCA754 is a high performance single axis DC motor controller and amplifier system. It is comprised of a highly integrated single PC board level product with a cohesive interface. This card provides current amplification and analog servo control interfaces. The single-phase characteristic of the current amplifier makes it particularly well suited for DC motors such as galvanometers and voice coils. It was specifically developed for control of motor applications requiring both high temporal and spatial servo precision, such as machine vision, inspection, scientific imaging, medical imaging and other business applications. This amplifier interfaces directly to many of the Equipment Solution motor/stage solutions.
Besides galvanometers the SCA814 is directly compatible with all the ESI linear voice coil stages and the optical scanners. A bipolar linear or switching regulated power supply is required by the SCA814 amplifier. Typically better performance can be achieved when using a linear power supply. Equipment Solutions has several high-current supplies for this purpose including the SPS15 ±15V DC Switching Power Supply .

San Luis Obispo, CA – The TA320 linear three-phase servo motion control amplifier from Trust Automation, Inc. allows motion system designers to easily integrate the latest developments in sinusoidal motor control and its benefits of zero cogging, no torque ripple, and smooth motion, into applications such as, high resolution inspection systems or metrology instruments. Also, its very low electrical noise makes it ideal for integration in or near systems that have noise sensitive circuitry, such as transducers and sensors, and medical applications. Additionally, the audible noise problems associated with PWM amplifiers are eliminated.
This versatile and powerful 700 W continuous (1400W peak) linear amplifier can be configured to accept two sinusoidal commutations separated by 120 degrees with the third phase generated by the amplifier. The TA320 amplifier can be set up to operate in trapezoidal mode using hall sensor feedback or as one, two, or three single phase amplifiers. The amplifier also features DTS control which allows the transconductance (Amps/input Volts) to be changed on-the-fly. An additional benefit is that high resolution control can be maintained without having to sacrifice power capability.
Integral forced air cooling, a housing designed to protect against operator injury, easily made connections using ribbon connectors, SMB coaxial connectors, and pluggable-terminal connectors, demonstrate Trust Automation’s commitment to operator safety and ease of integration.
