Motion Control – USDA/FDA/3A-Dairy Compliant Linear Motion Components
LM76 offers Metric FDA/USDA/3A-Dairy compliant self-lubricating linear bearings for: Food Processing, Packaging, Bio/Pharmaceutical, and Medical Systems!
E. Longmeadow, MA – Motion Control Components – Linear Motion – Linear Motion – LM76 FluidLine Linear/Rotary bearings are FDA/USDA & 3A Dairy Complaint. They are also caustic wash down inert. FluidLine bearings one piece construction has benefits over traditional Teflon Composite lined aluminum bearings: if you have a wear situation, Teflon Composite Bearings have a .035″ Teflon Composite Liner. Once you wear through the liner, you are into the aluminum shell.
E. Longmeadow, MA – LM76 is continuing to expand its FDA compliant radial and linear bearing product lines. CERAMICSPEED Bearing Units are the latest additions. Bearings used in the food and beverage industry have to be reliable, easily cleaned, and require only minimal maintenance. CERAMICSPEED Bearing Units featuring FDA-approved Si3N4 (Silicon Nitride) balls have extremely long service life as Si3N4 balls are 2 times harder than steel balls and 4 times smoother.
This means, CERAMICSPEED Bearing Units handle higher loads with less friction, resulting in longer life of the balls and the race. Balls made from Silicon Nitride do not change their shape under load and are not subject to spalling which can contaminate the foods or beverages being processed. They are also very tolerant of temperature extremes (-30OC to 100OC) and thermal shock.
Motion Control – Because LM76 understands workplace environments, manufacturing processes, and offers a complete line of linear bearing systems, LM76 was able to solve a problem and eliminate downtime!
E. Longmeadow, MA – Motion Control — When profile rail guides fail within a week bring production to a standstill LM76 was called on to supply a linear bearing system that would stand up under extreme conditions. This application story is not claiming that LM76 Jet Rail Systems are superior to profile rail guide systems. However, in this harsh environment the LM76 Jet Rail System proved to be the correct engineering option.
Linear Motion – The above twin Linear slide system was designed for a large manufacturer of semiconductors. The vapors from a plating operation were so corrosive that linear components were failing within months of installation. LM76 designed a motion control system which was predominately stainless while some components were nickel plated. LM76’s polymatrix, ball screw nut was a major improvement over a competitor’s system which employed a standard re-circulating ball nut.
E. Longmeadow, MA – Motion Control – Two new series of high speed, low cost, compact linear guide systems called, “Speed Guides,TM” have been introduced by LM76. The Speed Demon OSG type and Speed Demon SG type linear guide systems are designed for speeds up to 10 m/sec. (32.8 ft/sec.), accelerations to 50 m/sec.2 and loads up to 5600 N. (1259 lbs.). These quiet, low profile guide systems are ideal for: High speed assembly and sorting operations, pick and place robots, industrial, office, and packaging machines, vacuum applications, and medical equipment (including patient care devices).
E. Longmeadow, MA –Motion Control – LM76 has developed the most corrosion resistant linear bearing available. In space, deep under the sea, or in the harshest environments, when there can be no “Plan B,” Pegasus Series 1 Linear Ball Bearings can be counted on to perform. In some applications linear bearings will not move for days, weeks, months or even years, however, when called on to perform they must work as if they just came out of the box. LM76’s Pegasus Series 1 Linear Bearings feature Silicon Nitride (SiNi) Ceramic Balls in a shell with retainer and end caps all made from 440 Stainless Steel and then ArmorloyTM coated.
E. Longmeadow, MA — Motion Control – LM76 has announced the release of their new line of Radial Ball Bearings featuring ZrO2 (Zirconia) Ceramic balls. To Complement LM76’s broad range of Linear Bearings that are FDA/UDSA/3A Dairy compliant, as well as linear bearings for extreme environments; they have added Deep Groove bearings which accommodate radial and axial loads, Angular Contact bearings for simultaneously handling radial and axial loads, Spherical Bearings which are self aligning, and Thrust Bearings for high axial loads. Each of the four types of metric bearings are available in a wide range sizes.
The advantages of ZrO2 ceramic balls are: FDA/USDA/3A Dairy/Caustic washdown compliant, lighter than steel balls and can be used at extreme RPMs, they withstand higher loads without spalling, have a lower coefficient of friction, are inert to chemicals, have no magnetic signature, and are non conductive.
E. Longmeadow, MA – LM76’s high speed, “Black Racer,” ceramic coated linear bearings out perform linear ball bushing and linear polymer bearings in high speed and high acceleration/deceleration applications. These drop in replacement linear bearings are designed to be used in standard open and closed pillow blocks. “Black Racer” linear bearings are ideal for: Rocket sleds, crash test systems, and other high speed, high acceleration application.

When a design engineer has fully defined a linear-motion application’s requirements regarding travel length, speed, force, and accuracy as well as repeatability, the next question to answer is this:
Does an off-the-shelf linear slide (or a stock linear slide from a catalog) fully satisfy the application?
Off-the-shelf linear slides are advantageous for their quick delivery and lower cost than that of custom components. No wonder most linear-motion designs do in fact employ off-the-shelf linear slides from various component and system suppliers.
Van Nuys, CA – — Motion Control – Optimal Engineering Systems, Inc. (OES) has added five new profile single axis positioning stages to their AQ150 Series of linear stages. Available off-the-shelf in travel lengths of: 600 mm (23.622 in.), 700 mm (27.559 in.), 800 mm (31.496 in.), 900 mm (35.433 in.), and 1000 mm ( 39.370 in.), these stages are available with either a Two-Phase Stepper Motor or with a Three-Phase Brushless Motor with a Quadrature Incremental Optical Encoder.

Easily … … Using Custom made LM76 Jet Rail Bearings and Shafting!
When a privately funded research company was ready to move from their original Proof of Concept to a sustainable fusion reactor to produce clean sustainable energy, they realized that extremely heavy components would need to be assembled and disassembled and reassembled again for design modifications and maintenance. The completed assembly would be the length of two buses and easy alignment of the individual components would be critical.

We are shipping another slide today for the oil patch. When Weir Oil and Gas called with a slide application that required special engineering, LM76 was all ears – as it was right up our alley. This slide is a Trunnion Grinding Slide which has a 56HP motor running at 3500 RPM mounted to the Y Axis – with a 12″ grinding wheel attached. The X Axis (52″ Stroke) runs on 440C stainless linear ball bearings that have special beryllium copper scraper seal cartridges while the Y Axis (4″ Stroke) employs profile rail guides with double scraper seal kits. Our customer did not want protective bellows so we had to ensure grinding debris would not cause bearing or screw/nut failures. On both axis, we employed our proprietary “Polymatrix, Double Preloaded Nuts” as opposed to recirculating ball nuts. Why LM76? Good question…we were the only company that got back to them with a thoughtful solution.
