Van Nuys, CA – — The New AU300-AER three-axis Gimbal Mount from OES (Optimal Engineering Systems, Inc.) features full 360O rotation of each axis. This three-axis gimbal mount handles loads to 10kg (22.5 lbs) and has a clearance of 300 mm x 300 mm, (11.8 in. x 11.8 in.) around the roll axis stage. The Azimuth stage rotary table is mounted on a large 360 mm (14.173 in.) x 360 mm (14.173 in.) x 13 mm (0.512 in.) plate with handles and has predrilled accessible mounting holes for easy integration into new or existing applications, and for increased stability. The AU300-AER three-axis Gimbal Mount is ideal for mounting: cameras, optics, lasers and instrumentation for scanning, tracking, positioning, pointing, and other applications.

The 3 axes: azimuth, elevation, and roll axes are drived by bi-directional stepper motors capable of microstepping, and has knobs for manual adjustments. The roll axis table measures 100 mm (3.937 in.) in diameter. The knobs may be replaced with optical encoders for position verification and closed loop positioning. Each axis features: low backlash worm gear drives and precision “V” groove and cross roller bearings for very high resolution of 3.6 arc seconds, and repeatability and positional accuracy to 36 arc seconds. Travel speed of each axis is 8 O per second. Electrical connections are made using three 9 pin DB-9 connectors.

The AU300-AER Motorized Three-axis Gimbal Mount can be ordered as a complete plug-and-play system with a multi-axis controller, joy stick, track ball, or keypad, and with a 30 mm thru hole in the roll stage.

Automatic pipetting involves the use of robots to perform this type of tedious bench work, allowing scientists more time to design experiments and analyze data.

Overview

“Pipetting” refers to the use of pipettes, which are laboratory tools commonly used in biology and chemistry. They’re generally used to dispense a measured volume of liquid, although a pipette’s specific design can vary considerably from single pieces made of glass to complex devices that use electronics. Many types of pipettes draw up the liquid by creating a partial vacuum above the chamber that holds the liquid. A pipette’s accuracy and precision primarily depends on its design.

Automatic Pipetting

Manual pipetting is often complex and inefficient, leading to increased preparation time, training requirements and operational costs. This process also increases the chances of procedural errors in an experiment.

An automated pipetting system generally transfers liquids between pre-selected containers in a programmed sequence. They’re also known as liquid-handling robots, especially when they include other components such as laboratory shakers and microplate washers in addition to pipettes. The ability to increase throughput and reproducibility is one of the primary advantages of liquid-handling robots.

These robots dispense liquids into containers such as tubes and wells. They’re often integrated into other systems such as liquid chromatographic systems, typically as automated injection modules. In addition to saving valuable time for scientists, liquid-handling robots are especially useful for preparing samples more precisely in applications requiring high-throughput in complex sequences. They may also be used for weighing samples in liquid and powder form as well as performing many types of biological and chemical assays.

These systems may contain additional components for feeding samples into heating and cooling systems, typically for the purpose of thermal cycling. Their physical construction may also allow them to easily integrate into peripheral lab-ware. For example, a liquid handler can be fitted with robotic arms that the user can program to manipulate external lab-ware, further enhancing the robot’s uses. Other features of automated liquid-handling robots include start/stop functions and the ability to coordinate the steps in a sequence, which is especially useful when performing assays.

Pipetting Robots Confirgurations

XYZ robots are automated liquid-handling platforms that provide a range of solutions for preparing samples. They provide a common platform that allows scientists to easily share protocols and reproduce results. These robots automate experiments that scientists would otherwise need to perform manually, allowing them more time to answer important questions.

IntelLiDrives XYZ robots support interfaces to external I/O devices such as fluid pumps. An adaptor is also available for the XYZ robot that allows it to hold a Society for Biomolecular Screening (SBS)-standard multi-well plate. This system allows the user to perform pipetting applications such as automated microscopy with a high degree of resolution and repeatability.

The user can also change the placement and orientation of individual devices to provide a variety of configurations, and one stage can even be removed entirely to create an XY setup.

Robot Programming

Users programs pipetting sequences, using GUI (graphical user interface) with icon-based programming or writing sequence scripts with a VB-like language. No programming experience required to create complex pipetting sequences with interfaces to external pumps and other labware hardware.

Santa Clarita, CA —– H2W Technologies’ latest single rail positioning stage H-gantry design is an open frame XY positioning system. It has two bottom parallel axes with one cross axis connecting the two (H-gantry).

Each linear axis uses H2W’s brushless linear motors (BLDM-B04), and each has a total stroke length of 25.67 in [652 mm]; can generate 6.2 lbs [27.8 N] of continuous force and 18.7 lbs [83.3 N] of peak force, or a combined 12.4 lbs [55.6 N] continuous force and 37.4 lbs [166.6 N] of peak force on the bottom axis. The non-contact 1-micron resolution encoders allow for precise positioning. The moving tables are guided by a precision recirculating linear ball bearing system.

The linear axes are assembled on a single piece of aluminum extrusion, thus reducing the overall weight of the system. The top cross axis is mounted to the bottom parallel axis using rigid aluminum extrusions, 90-degree right angle gussets, and custom extrusion end plates. The system is mounted to a flat aluminum tooling plate base. There are also provisions that allow customer cables to be routed within the cable carriers. It has end-of-travel rubber bumper stops.

Additional options include, a home positioning sensor, end-of-travel-sensors, and custom mounting holes. Single extrusion length of up to 6 m long, allows for longer stroke applications.

Santa Clarita, CA —– Motion Control — Fully vacuum compatible four axis positioning gantry (XYTZ). The XY axes are driven by brushless linear motor DR Positioning Stages. The Theta axis is a worm gear stage that is driven by a rotary stepper motor under closed loop control in conjunction with an arc-segmented linear encoder. The Z axis linear motion is achieved by using a voice coil positioning stage operating under closed loop position control. The four axes operate under synchronized position control in conjunction with a non-contact analog output position feedback device that is used to control the position with respect to a silicon wafer. The stage includes a fully integrated four axis electronics package that allow each axis to operate under closed loop control..

All components were selected for their low outgassing characteristics and the system was designed to fit within a customer designed vacuum chamber. This gantry was designed to perform secondary processing procedures on a silicon wafer while exposed to a vacuum.
