MIT EMERGENCY VENTILATOR (E-VENT) PROJECT COPY

MIT has launched an emergency research project with a team of Engineers and American clinicians to address the question:

Is it possible to safely ventilate a COVID-19 patient by automatically actuating a manual resuscitator?

Their process in approaching this question is to first identify the minimum requirements for a low-cost ventilator, based on the collective wisdom of many clinicians, design against these requirements, conduct immediate testing, report the results, iterate and facilitate discussion.

Greenville, DE —-Motion Control Components – Kollmorgen has launched the VLM servo motor series to fill the gap between stepper and high-performance servo motors. The new VLM series synchronous servo motors offer OEMs, machine builders and end-users, an excellent price-performance proposition in the torque range of 0.5 to 4.5 Nm continuous and 16 Nm peak, with speeds of up to 6000 rpm. They also provide highly flexible configuration, proven quality and high reliability. Hence, they are a very useful solution for many applications where stepper or asynchronous motors are pushed to their limits but the expense and unused dynamics of high performance servo motors is not desirable.

The many standard design and configuration options built into the range allow engineers an optimal solution from the outset, to tailor their applications and machine requirements. Thus, installation time and cost is minimized and the price-performance ratio is further improved. The VLM series motors are available with standard frame sizes of 60 mm and 90-mm or NEMA 23 and 34 in each of the six most popular motor sizes and with a choice of twelve standard windings. The extensive possibilities for shaft and mounting facilitate seamless integration into virtually any system.

Feedback options include Digital Resolver (SFD), resolver, encoder and Hall sensors. VLM motors achieve continuous torque up to 4.5 Nm and peak torque to 16 Nm and can be used in power systems with 230 VAC. And of course, the new motors meet the ROHS Directives for CE and UL certification.

Motion Control – Linear Servo Controller Amplifier to Control Voice Coil Motors

Sunnyvale, CA,   —  Motion Control – The SCA814 Linear Servo Controller was specifically designed to control single phase, non-commutated devices like voice coil motors.  like it’s field proven predecessor the SCA754 is a high performance single axis DC motor controller and amplifier system.  It is comprised of a highly integrated single PC board level product with a cohesive interface.  This card provides current amplification and analog servo control interfaces.  The single-phase characteristic of the current amplifier makes it particularly well suited for DC motors such as galvanometers and voice coils.  It was specifically developed for control of motor applications requiring both high temporal and spatial servo precision, such as machine vision, inspection, scientific imaging, medical imaging and other business applications.  This amplifier interfaces directly to many of the Equipment Solution motor/stage solutions.
Besides galvanometers the SCA814 is directly compatible with all the ESI linear voice coil stages and the optical scanners.  A bipolar linear or switching regulated power supply is required by the SCA814 amplifier.  Typically better performance can be achieved when using a linear power supply.  Equipment Solutions has several high-current supplies for this purpose including the SPS15 ±15V DC Switching Power Supply .

Servos – Servo System – The mid-level, general-purpose 1S Series Servos incorporate valuable input from our customers to optimize use from design to commissioning.

Lower Costs and Total Cost of Ownership
The 1S Series eliminates up to 20% of hidden servo system costs to the customer by no longer requiring separate external parts such as servodrive controller cable, terminal block for I/O, safety cable, brake relay and absolute encoder battery and cable.  Regardless of power rating, all 1S power drives have a uniform height to simplify design and improve control cabinet air circulation. We streamlined I/O connection, replacing an external terminal and cable with a pluggable connector with push-in terminals that allows wiring to be prepared separately. In the process, we increased the number and mix of supported I/O.  The end user benefits from lower maintenance costs.

Advances for High Accuracy Machines
The 1S servomotors use a gear-less/battery-less, multi-turn 23-bit absolute encoder, 16-bit multi-turn to provide accurate position input. Advanced tuning functions help shorten settling time, allowing faster production speeds and greater throughput.
Expanded Built-in Safety Capability

Machine safety for rotating hazards takes a prominent position in equipment design since the recent changes in injury liability. To help OEMs simplify safety system design and standardize on one series without stocking many separate drives, the 1S Series servodrives offer both networked and hardwired safe torque off built in. Configuration of FailSafe over EtherCAT (FSoE) only requires connecting NX Series safety control units to 1S Series servos  via open network “EtherCAT”. No wiring is required for the emergency stop of each axis for servo.

A single red/green LED indicates operating status. The drive is fully protected against overvoltage, under-voltage, over-current, over-heating and short-circuits across motor, ground and power leads. Furthermore, the drive can interface with digital controllers or be used stand-alone, and requires only a single unregulated DC power supply. Loop gain, current limit, input gain and offset can be adjusted using 14-turn potentiometers. The offset adjusting potentiometer can also be used as an on-board input signal for testing purposes. This drive can use quadrature encoder inputs for velocity control. Features include:

Greenville, DE- Anolog Servo Drives – Motion Control – Available immediately are the B060A400AC and B100A400AC analog brushless servo drives providing up to 21kW and 35kW respectively. The B060A400AC is capable of outputting 60A peak and 30A continuous while the B100A400AC outputs 100A peak and 50A continuous. These servo drives can operate with both AC and DC supply voltages with an AC voltage range of 200-240VAC and a DC voltage range of 255-373 VDC. The built-in shunt circuit alleviates regeneration issues to increase the maximum deceleration rate of large inertial loads. Modes of operation include: Current, Duty Cycle, Voltage, IR Comp, Encoder Velocity, Hall Velocity and Tachometer.

DIP Switch selectable settings allow fine-tuning to match motor and machine dynamics without having to change components on the board. Included are 17 current loop integrator gain settings, 32 current loop proportional gain settings, 8 velocity loop integrator gain settings and 4 tachometer scaling settings. In addition, selectable inhibit logic, fault logic and linear ramping make these motion control drives compatible with more controllers. With so many configuration options these are our most configurable analog servo drives ever.

These new motion control servo drives are suited for a wide range of applications including: assembly/general factory automation, satellite ground station positioning, robotics, testers, metalworking machines, alternative energy control, simulators and more.

To compliment the motion control BD5 drives, Applied Motion Products is offering three performance matched 42mm brushless DC motors. Maximum speed is 4500 rpm. Max continuous torque is 0.225 N-m (32 ounce-inches).

The motion control BL series brushless motors offer long life and low maintenance. They come in metric frame sizes and are offered with optional gearheads for applications demanding high torque. These are three-phase brushless motors with hall signals for commutation and velocity loop feedback.
