Motion Control – Powerful Microstepping Drive from Servo2Go!

Applied Motion’s powerful stepper drive costs the same as a competitors drive without a built-in power supply!

Servo2Go-Logo

Greenville, DE –— The Motion Control STAC5 microstepping drive provides up to 5 amps per phase from a high bus voltage with sophisticated current control, delivering high torque over a board range of speeds. An advanced anti-resonance algorithm with electronic damping allows for maximum torque utilization and fast settling times.

The STAC5 microstepping drive is available in 120VAC and 220VAC versions, both housed in a compact package.

Applied Motion’s powerful stepper drive costs the same as a competitors drive without a built-in power supply, and features……

  • High performance
  • Built-in power supply & regeneration clamp
  • 120 and 220 VAC models
  • Accepts pulse & direction, streaming commands, stored programming
  • 10/100 MBit Ethernet & EtherNet/IP
  • Advanced anti-resonance
  • Matching high performance motors

All Motion Control STAC5 models include 100Mbit Ethernet communication. The Ethernet interface is used to configure the STAC5 and motor, and also supports the SCL and Q languages over standard Ethernet cabling, addressing and protocols. There are 3 control options available with the STAC5 stepper drives: S, Q and IP.

T• “S” drives can operate in pulse & direction, velocity, and streaming serial (SCL) control modes. To select the control mode, as well as to setup the motor and configure other drive parameters, use the ST Configurator™ software.

• “Q” drives can operate in all of the same control modes as an S drive, plus they have the ability to run stand-alone Q programs stored in non-volatile memory. Q programs are created using the Q Programmer™ software, which provides multi-tasking, math functions, conditional processing, data register manipulation, and more features in a robust yet simple text-based programming language. Like S drives, Q drives must first be setup and configured using the ST Configurator™ software.

• “IP” drives come with built-in EtherNet/IP network communications, the widely used industrial protocol for manufacturing automation applications. With EtherNet/IP users can control, configure and query the drive using an open, standards-based, industrial Ethernet connection at speeds up to 100 MBits/sec. The STAC5-IP drives run all of the same control modes as STAC5-Q drives, with the addition that all drive features can be accessed over EtherNet/IP, including more than 100 commands and 130 registers for controlling motion, I/O, configuration, polling, math, register manipulation, and Q programming. Motion Control – Customer Driven AC Servo Design

motion control servo system

motion control OMRON Logo

Servos – Servo System – The mid-level, general-purpose 1S Series Servos incorporate valuable input from our customers to optimize use from design to commissioning.

Lower Costs and Total Cost of Ownership
The 1S Series eliminates up to 20% of hidden servo system costs to the customer by no longer requiring separate external parts such as servodrive controller cable, terminal block for I/O, safety cable, brake relay and absolute encoder battery and cable.  Regardless of power rating, all 1S power drives have a uniform height to simplify design and improve control cabinet air circulation. We streamlined I/O connection, replacing an external terminal and cable with a pluggable connector with push-in terminals that allows wiring to be prepared separately. In the process, we increased the number and mix of supported I/O.  The end user benefits from lower maintenance costs.

Advances for High Accuracy Machines
The 1S servomotors use a gear-less/battery-less, multi-turn 23-bit absolute encoder, 16-bit multi-turn to provide accurate position input. Advanced tuning functions help shorten settling time, allowing faster production speeds and greater throughput.
Expanded Built-in Safety Capability

Machine safety for rotating hazards takes a prominent position in equipment design since the recent changes in injury liability. To help OEMs simplify safety system design and standardize on one series without stocking many separate drives, the 1S Series servodrives offer both networked and hardwired safe torque off built in. Configuration of FailSafe over EtherCAT (FSoE) only requires connecting NX Series safety control units to 1S Series servos  via open network “EtherCAT”. No wiring is required for the emergency stop of each axis for servo.
First Wave of 1S Servos

The first wave satisfies 100 W to 3 kW applications. Future releases will address power requirements of higher and lower power ratings.

Motion Control – New Profinet Interface for POSITAL’s Explosion-Proof Rotary Sensors

Motion Control - Posital Explosion Proof Rotary Sensors available from Electromate

Motion Control - Electromate-Logo

Vaughan, Ontario, Canada – Motion Control – Components -POSITAL has added an optional Profinet communications interface to its range of explosion-proof IXARC rotary encoders. These devices have been designed to comply with ATEX/IECEx directives for Category 3 electrical products and are suitable for Zone 1 and Zone 21 conditions (potential exposure to hazardous levels of explosive gases and dust concentrations). Areas of application for these encoders include oil and gas facilities, underground mines, chemical plants, milling operations and grain-handling facilities.

POSITAL’s ATEX-certified motion control encoders are built with aluminum or Type 316L stainless steel housings that are designed to contain any electrical hot spots or sparking and to provide environmental protection ratings of up to IP67. Based on POSITAL’s well-proven optical measurement technology, these encoders can deliver up to 16-bit resolution in single-turn configurations or 14-bit resolution for multi-turn models. This technology ensures that position measurement integrity is maintained even if movement occurs when system power is unavailable. No backup batteries are needed, reducing maintenance costs. IXARC encoders can be ordered with a wide range of mounting options to ensure that they can be readily adapted to many kinds of equipment.

ATEX and IECEx Norms
